QUALITY
AFFORDABLE GLASSES
FOR ALL

Le Bonhomme à lunettes, aka Philippe Rochette, is a nomadic optician working with community organizations in the Greater Montreal area and Montéregie with a great choice of affordable glasses with all the options, for men, women and kids. Honesty, simplicity and solidarity are the keys to understanding our philosophy. Possibility of $20 glasses for welfare recipients. (see how it works)*

THE
BONHOMME’S
MANIFESTO

Glasses are not a luxury. Seeing clearly is a necessity. My mission is to make glasses affordable to everyone. How do I do that? It’s actually pretty simple. When you buy glasses from me, here’s what you are NOT paying for: head office space, a huge ad on a billboard along the highway, or a ‘prestigious’ name on the frame. You don’t pay for those things simply because I don’t have any of them. I trust word-of-mouth and the dynamism and loyalty of community organizers.

HONESTY,
SIMPLICITY,
SOLIDARITY

With absolutely no marketing budget, I always say jokingly that I’m condemned to do a great job because if I don’t, I just won’t have any clients. My business model is based on 3 core principles: honesty, simplicity and solidarity. Because I hold the firm belief that people should always trump profits, I offer an opportunity to save on something essential while allowing my clients to give back 10$ to the community. Come see me or contact me via email if you would like to know more. Together, we’ll see clearly !

HOW DOES IT WORK? IT’S EASY.  COME AND SEE US WITH YOUR PRESCRIPTION TO GET AFFORDABLE GLASSES!

What
should I do?

Think of the optician as the pharmacist for glasses. Come see us with your optometrist’s prescription (any will do). With your health card, the exam is free for everybody under 18 and over 65 as well as the vast majority of welfare recipients. The article 40 of their professionnal code forces them to give you the prescription on the spot. You are not even supposed to ask for it. If you do not fit these criteria, it’s usually around 50$ and it is covered by your work insurance. To recap : 1- Eye exam from the optometrist; 2- come see with your prescription (and your welfare form if applicable); 3- choose your glasses; 4- fast delivery with a solid warranty.*Important : We only accept cash as payment.

What if I’m a welfare recipient?

Your monthly welfare pocket book indicates if the eye exam is covered (after one year of allowances). You need to show your pocket book and your medicare card at the optometrist to get it for free. You then ask for a copy of your prescription. For glasses, it’s 6 months of allowances, eligible once every two years, unless you lose them or break them. You need to call 1-877-767-8773 to ask for the form. The price for an adult is 20$ more than the amount reimbursed by the government. For a children under your responsibility, it’s free.

Eyes exams by appointment

It is now possible to take your eye exam at Portes Orange, 160 Saint-Viateur East, #404. Either call us at 514-303-4315 to make an appointment with Dre Gabrielle Lapointe or Dre MariePier Dufour.

Is there
a warranty?

Let’s recap : We do not advertize and we never ever buy brand names. By keeping our overhead costs low, we are able to offer quality glasses at an affordable price. Production times are short, we have a wide selection of frames and there’s a one year warranty on every pair we sell. If you have insurance through work, you will be able to use our receipt to process your claim.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

For each pair we sell, we give $10 back
to a community organization of your choice on this list :

LE BONHOMME À LUNETTES IN THE MEDIA

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK

(…) all community organizations who, for more than 10 years now, share information about us on their respective networks. We would also like to point out that because of their work, dozens of local and community publications have mentioned the Bonhomme à lunettes!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

When you visit the schedule on the website, you will see if the service point requires an appointment or not. Most of them don’t. All you have to do is show up during the designated time period. No need to rush, we take everybody!

CAN I USE YOUR SERVICE OR IS IT ONLY FOR PEOPLE ON WELFARE?

This is for everybody. Our mission is to make buying glasses accessible for everyone. We certainly won’t ask for a financial statement.

CAN I KEEP MY FRAMES?

Yes, it’ll be cheaper! But we are not responsible for (very rare) cases where the frames get broken during lens insertion or the adjustment. We have final say. If we believe the frame is too old, we simply won’t go through with it.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Have you heard the story about the guy who calls at the restaurant to ask how much his dinner will cost? Well, it depends on what your order! We offer a wide range of thrifty solutions, but it all depends on the specifics of your prescription. Our prices are worth it and we collaborate with more than 45 community organisations. Furthermore, we consider our business as a safety net for people who are unable to see and don’t have the money to change that. We always find a solution.

THERE ARE NO DATES ON THE SCHEDULE

It’s a weekly schedule! Same time, same place every week!
