QUALITY
AFFORDABLE GLASSES
FOR ALL
Since 2007, le Bonhomme à lunettes, aka Philippe Rochette, is a nomadic optician working with 54 community organizations in the Greater Montreal area and Montéregie with a great choice of affordable glasses with all the options, for men, women and kids. Honesty, simplicity and solidarity are the keys to understanding our philosophy. Possibility of $20 glasses for welfare recipients. (see how it works)*
THE
BONHOMME’S
MANIFESTO
Glasses are not a luxury. Seeing clearly is a necessity. My mission is to make glasses affordable to everyone. How do I do that? It’s actually pretty simple. When you buy glasses from me, here’s what you are NOT paying for: head office space, a huge ad on a billboard along the highway, or a ‘prestigious’ name on the frame. You don’t pay for those things simply because I don’t have any of them. I trust word-of-mouth and the dynamism and loyalty of community organizers.
HONESTY,
SIMPLICITY,
SOLIDARITY
With absolutely no marketing budget, I always say jokingly that I’m condemned to do a great job because if I don’t, I just won’t have any clients. My business model is based on 3 core principles: honesty, simplicity and solidarity. Because I hold the firm belief that people should always trump profits, I offer an opportunity to save on something essential while allowing my clients to give back 10$ to the community. Come see me or contact me via email if you would like to know more. Together, we’ll see clearly !
HOW DOES IT WORK?

YOU MAY PASS AN EYE EXAM WITH AN OPTOMETRIST
The optician is the glasses pharmacist. He uses his judgment and his knowledge to make prescription glasses. You must have an eye exam at an optometrist (any) before. The code of ethics (Section 3 – Freedom of choice: 17 – 18) asks them to give you the prescription if you ask for it. He is paid for your exam. With the health insurance card, the exam is free for children under 18 and over 65. Normally, it’s about $ 95. May be covered by insurance. We give more details in the FAQ section.
For a social assistance provider, the monthly medical slip indicates if the eye exam is covered (after one year of benefits). By presenting your slip and health insurance card to the optometrist, consultation is free. The provider requests a copy of his prescription. He must also call 1-877-767-8773 to order the form for the glasses. It is usually after 6 months of benefits, eligible once every two years, except for loss or breakage.
COME TO ONE OF OUR SERVICES POINTS OR AT PORTES ORANGE
Philippe Rochette Optician, alias the Bonhomme à Lunettes is a mobile optician in community organizations of Greater Montreal – Laval – Monteregie – Laurentians – Lanaudière – and at Portes Orange, our headquarter. Take a look at points of service schedule and go to the organization that suits you with your prescription. No matter your budget is, there is a solution.
For a social assistance provider, have your prescription and your glasses form on hand.
CHOOSE GLASSES AND LENS
We offer all lens prescriptions and a judicious choice of quality frames with all options, for men, women and children. For basic options to social assistance recipients, the adult price is $ 20 more than the amount reimbursed by the form. It is better to leave a deposit when you place the order.
QUICK DELIVERY,
PRICE
& GUARANTEES
We accept all types of payments. You may already know us or have you heard from friends? We’re just trying to do smart business while having fun. All the work is always guaranteed, the delays are short and the quality of the service is essential for the success of this business born from word of mouth. We are fortunate to do our job as an optician this way using the right products available on the market at the right prices. Those with insurance may use the receipts.
We welcome the initiative of the new government program for eyeglasses and contact lenses for children: Seeing better for success. Here are the details of our new offer: From now on, at Bonhomme à Lunettes make you 3 pairs for the $ 250 allocated with the new program, for all the prescriptions for children made with ar and rae stock lenses in 1.5, 1.56 and 1.6. And the single vision surface glass in cr39, the rd 22 focus in cr39 and the st-28 in cr39. You will need the QST number to complete the request: # 1069396883 TQ0001.
OUR
BRANDS…
EXCLUSIVELY!
We are delighted to bring you our very first exclusive collections. With 3 brands, 50 models and wide range of colour, it is now easier than ever to find THE frames for YOU. The recognition of your success by your peers and your social respectability are so important to us, we are making them OUR priority.
BULLSHIT
From our studios in Milan and Paris, This organic co-creation was made with only one word in mind: prestige. Bullshit is a luxury brand where every piece of plastic just oozes with good taste. Dedicated to refined, authentic people, Bullshit will get you the looks, while still being able to pretend you don’t like all the attention. Ideal for those who are hostile to mediocrity.
WHATEVER
Born in the basement of a fair-trade, vegan café in Brooklyn, Whatever is handmade by a robot in one of the three factories that produces 90% of the world’s glasses. Whatever was created for altruists who truly value friendship. They are creative people with good values who don’t get hung up on details. Add a touch of nonchalance to your weekend look.
MA GRAND-MÈRE
Ma Grand-Mère is a proud Montrealer. From the optician putting it on your nose to the port employee unloading the box from China, Ma Grand-Mère has deep roots in the city. Those who wear Ma Grand-Mère usually have a strong personality, are tenacious, with a repartee that is both efficient and unoriginal. Their experience expresses the passing of time.

QUESTIONS
On the website schedule, each service point indicates if an appointment is required or not. Most of them don’t. All you have to do is show up during the designated time period.
Yes, it’ll be cheaper! But we are not responsible for (very rare) cases where the frames get broken during lens insertion or the adjustment. We have final say. If we believe the frame is too old, we simply won’t go through.
Have you heard the story about the guy who calls at the restaurant to ask how much his dinner will cost? Well, it depends on what your order! We offer a wide range of thrifty solutions, but it all depends on the specifics of your prescription. Our prices are worth it and we collaborate with more than 45 community organisations. Furthermore, we consider our business as a safety net for people who are unable to see and don’t have the money to change that. We always find a solution.
*** Please note, due to government public health measures, in relation with Covid-19, we have to close the mobile service in some community organizations. However, Portes Orange, our main service point, remains open by appointments only (see COVID-19 | SCHEDULE FOR EMERGENCY ONLY). We will also take all necessary health precautions. Thank you for your understanding.***
Usually, it’s a weekly schedule, same time, same place every week!

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK
The many community organizations which, for more than 10 years now, have helped promote us in their respective networks. Thanks to them, dozens of local and community publications have mentioned Bonhomme à lunettes!
Attention please, there is an error in Une Pilule, une petite granule interview, glasses are not made at Nikon, we are sorry for that.
