HOW DOES IT WORK?

(if you're on social assistance, it's different: click here.)

1_ TAKE AN EYE EXAM WITH AN OPTOMETRIST

An optician is basically the pharmacist of glasses. We work with your prescription. That’s why you need to first take an eye exam with an optometrist (any will do). Their code of ethics (Section 3 – Freedom of choice) requires them to give you your prescription if you ask for it.

With your medicare card, the basic exam is free for children 17 and under as well as adults over 65. Normally, it’s around $100. It might also be covered by your insurance. More details in our FAQ section..
